Predicting suicidal behavior - evidence for the theory of interpersonal psychological

interpersonal psychological theory of suicidal behavior (TE Joiner, 2005) predicts that 1) the perception of being a burden to others and the perception of being socially distant from the others instill the desire for death and 2) the person not put in place this death wish unless you have developed the ability to carry it out. This ability is developed through exposure and subsequent habituation to painful and frightening experience, it is necessary to overcome the powerful forces of self-preservation.
Studies show that these indices are better predictions of other indices such as age, biological sex, marital status, ethnicity, family history suicide, family history of depression, family history of bipolar disorder, a diagnosis of depression or bipolar disorder present and past, current depressive symptoms, hopelessness (hopelessness), diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.
