Prolonged Grief Disorder (Prolonged Grief Disorder): psychometric validation of the proposed criteria for DSM-V and ICD-11 mental health

Mourning is a universal experience and its association with increased morbidity and mortality is well defined. However, the pain becomes a serious health concern in a minority of cases. For these individuals the intense pain persists, is debilitating and can meet the criteria for distinguishing a mental disorder. At the moment, the grief is not recognized as a mental disorder in DSM-IV or ICD-10. The objective of this study is to determine the validity of psychometric criteria of Prolonged Grief Disorder (Prolonged Grief Disorder, PGD) to improve detection and treatment of potential victims at greater risk of persistent problems and malfunctions.
